Harris Newman on Putting People First
For Harris Newman, Head of Marketplace Development based in Bergen County, New Jersey, the captivating part of advertising was beyond the ad itself, it was the decision that happens before someone buys. Long before entering the industry, Harris was already drawn to that moment of choice, and uncovering what drives it was what reeled him in.
“I have always been fascinated by the purchasing funnel. Why does someone choose Chevy over Ford? Or Coke over Pepsi?” That fascination grew alongside a deeper interest in sales psychology and the science behind a buying decision, a connection he made early on and one that has continued to guide his path ever since. “Being able to understand how a user engages with an ad, and what decisions they take next in their engagement journey was a strong driver for my entrance into this field.”
That instinct for spotting where an industry is headed next is what makes Harris’ current work especially rewarding. One initiative he’s particularly proud of is Yieldmo’s growing sports business. As digital media undergoes a massive transformation, Harris and his team have been exploring new partnership opportunities with well-recognized organizations like the NBA and its teams, extending reach to fans well beyond the arena.
“Digital media is undergoing a massive transformation, and I am energized by our forward thinking to explore new partnership opportunities through well recognized organizations like the NBA, and their respective teams to extend reach to fans outside the arena, and the 21 hours off the field/court.”
Ask Harris to capture his team in three words, and the answer comes back fast: “Determined, Focused, Unique.” Those qualities show up in the partnerships his team builds and in the way they approach new opportunities, always looking a step ahead of where the industry is going.
Harris’ favorite Yieldmo memory is one he helped create himself: launching the Culture Committee. Alongside the team’s strength in building external partnerships, he’s made it a priority to invest in the people internally.
“We have been fantastic at fostering strong external partnerships, and taking the time to invest in our team internally to learn, grow, and shape our future together has been a great addition to our weekly work.”
Whether he’s exploring the next sports partnership or finding new ways to bring the team closer together, Harris brings the same mindset to every project: understanding people first, and building the connections that follow.
